David Thrift is an award-winning design leader with expertise in product design and design strategy. An outgoing creative with a passion for music and the outdoors, David recently finished his tenure at HPI in Chicago designing mass-manufactured plastic goods for Walmart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and others. Previously, he served at UPTECH Drones in New York as an Associate Industrial Designer, where he created meaningful new experiences for Industrial Consumers by innovating novel aircraft. Additionally, while a Senior Advertising Designer at IMC, he led and contributed to a variety of design-driven advertising campaigns for local and national businesses, including such clients as Wendy’s and Marriott Hotels. With a focus on design for all, last year he traveled across rural India to test his prototype for a solar stove for low income communities with the Subsistence Marketplaces NGO.
With these experiences, and his prior work on short term projects with organizations such as NASA and Pirate Fly Fishing, David has become a versatile designer, creating everything from housewares and UAV’s to advertising and Web Design.
David has won several design awards, including recognition for Excellence in Sustainable Management and Technology from University of Illinois, Selection for the Krannert Art Museum’s Annual Industrial Design Exhibition, and 5 ICPA Awards for his work in Advertising Design.
David holds a BFA in Industrial Design from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he built a strong foundation for his career, and pursued concentrations in both Business Administration and 3D Printing for design. He continues to strive to hone his design process and through diverse and fulfilling projects and experiences.
